We’re here to help
The Bettye B. Lewis Career Center at UT Law works with students and alumni at every stage of their careers, beginning with their first questions when they are prospective students. With more than fifty years of combined industry experience in both the legal employer and law school settings, the Career Center staff understands the legal recruiting process from the employer’s perspective and works to acquaint students with the nature and expectations of various employment settings.
The Career Center also serves as a resource for employers of all types. Staff members work to understand the specific needs of each employer in order to provide tailored service and connect them to the right candidates.
Most job listings are posted through Symplicity, our online job database.
Employers may access Symplicity and find other options for connecting with candidates on the Employer Page. For access as an alumni job seeker, send an e-mail to the Career Center to obtain a Symplicity login, password and user guide. Be sure to include your full name and your year of graduation in the request.
About our namesake
The Career Center is named in honor of Bettye B. Lewis, who served as the first president of the Tennessee Bar Auxiliary and as president of the Memphis Bar Auxiliary. She cared about her city of Memphis, her state, her country, and especially UT, the College of Law, and its students.
Lewis was the matriarch of a family devoted to enhancing the legal profession. On a personal level, she epitomized many of the values the Career Center seeks to develop in its students. Lewis was savvy, smart, and trusted, and she always acted without a hidden agenda. While she met four US presidents and had personal friendships with numerous governmental leaders, she treated each individual she met with the same level of respect and vitality, no matter their station in life.
