UT Law Hosts National Moot Court Regional Competition

The University of Tennessee College of Law hosted the National Moot Court Region VII Competition in November 2023. The College appreciates the assistance of so many members of the bench and bar who made the competition a success. Justice Dwight Tarwater (Tennessee Supreme Court), Judge Kristi Davis (Tennessee Court of Appeals), and Judge Cindy Wyrick (U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee) presided over the final round of the competition, which was held at the Tennessee Supreme Court.

UT Law’s National Moot Court team, comprised of Emma Fowler, Luke Norton, and Tyler Raper, qualified for the single elimination rounds of the Region VII competition. After winning in the quarter-final round, the team lost in the semi-final round. While this was not the outcome they wanted, we congratulate the team on their excellent performance.

On Friday evening following the first day of competition, the College hosted a banquet celebrating 70 years of National Moot Court excellence at UT Law. The banquet was attended by long-time professors and National Moot Court coaching partners John Sobieski and Joe Cook, as well as alumni who previously competed on UT Law’s National Moot Court Team, this year’s coaches (Don Leatherman and John Sobieski), faculty and staff, and many alumni and friends. Banquet speakers included Amy Rao Mohan (UT Law ‘12) and Jason Long (UT Law ‘96).
