Legal Clinic honored for excellence in pro bono work

The University of Tennessee Legal Clinic’s pro bono work has been recognized by the Tennessee Justice Center.  Director Michele Johnson presented the UT Legal Clinic with the Pro Bono Firm of the Year award earlier this month. It’s the first time the honor has been given to a university group rather than to a private law firm.

Alumni recognized as best among Middle Tennessee lawyers

The Nashville Business Journal has named 23 University of Tennessee College of Law alumni among Middle Tennessee’s Best of the Bar for 2019. According to the organization’s website, the Best of the Bar rankings are conducted annually by the Nashville Business Journal to honor leading lawyers and corporate counsel.

For Rachel M. Moses (’02), her life’s work is a calling. As a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, she gives voice to the underrepresented and provides hope to those who face injustice.

Four law graduates to receive loan repayment assistance

The University of Tennessee College of Law has selected four alumni to receive financial awards through the 2019 Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell, & Berkowitz, PC Loan Repayment Assistance Program. This program, now in its second year, annually provides financial assistance to College of Law graduates who work in public interest law.

Work That Makes a Difference – Michele Johnson (’94)

As the Executive Director of the Tennessee Justice Center in Nashville, Tennessee, Michele Johnson has an exhaustive set of responsibilities. But she doesn’t consider her workload as a public interest attorney a burden. As an eight-year-old, she decided she didn’t ever again want to witness individuals being institutionalized because their families couldn’t assist them.
