Visit Knoxville is the official Convention and Visitors Bureau for Knoxville and Knox County. Within the Downtown area, there are essentially three distinct areas/sub-districts of interest:
- Market Square (an open-air mecca of renovated, historic buildings – known for shopping and dining)
- Gay Street (a dynamic ten-block thoroughfare, consisting of a number of historic buildings, noted restaurants, drinking establishments, shopping, and the Theater District)
- The Old City (historic buildings with restaurants and drinking establishments.)
At the corner of W. Summit Hill Drive, you’ll find Knoxville’s Visitors Center, famous for hosting the popular noon-time live performance WDVX radio show, “Blue Plate Special.”
Adjacent to the Fort Sanders neighborhood and the UT Knoxville campus (between the campus and Downtown) is the Knoxville Convention Center and the World’s Fair Park (constructed for the 1982 World’s Fair). A distinct Fair landmark – the Sunsphere – can be seen from many vantage points in/around the UT campus and may serve as a handy navigation aid or “can’t miss” meeting point.
Knoxville is one of the region’s most accessible cities for authentic outdoor adventure. Whether on a greenway through a historic park or on a natural trail through the woods, you will observe historic relics and beautiful wildflowers among the dogwood trees.
