College of Law students offer tax prep assistance

As of March 11, all appointments for 2021 have been filled. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to serving you again next year.

The College of Law is offering virtual assistance throughout the month of March for taxpayers who have questions about completing their tax forms.

Students will meet with taxpayers virtually to answer questions Monday through Friday between noon and 1 p.m. and again Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Those interested in meeting with a student must schedule an appointment in advance.

In past years, UT Pro Bono students at the College of Law have offered assistance to the community in face-to-face meetings without an appointment.

UT Pro Bono advisor Brad Morgan said the group is taking precautions this year to keep everyone involved safe.

“Given the situation with COVID, we have implemented changes with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program this year, but we understand how important this program is to the community and we are still here to help,” Morgan said.

Note that the College of Law certification level does not allow students to advise those filing taxes with an individual taxpayer identification number. Those in need of assistance or with questions about the program should contact Morgan at rmorgan2@utk.edu or by phone at 865-974-2492.
