College of Law Professor and Legal Writing Director Lucy Jewel has been elected to the board of directors of the Legal Writing Institute.
Jewel will serve a four-year term as one of 14 members of the board responsible for establishing policies and priorities, and planning and operation of the organization’s publications, projects, events, conferences, and workshops. Jewel vied against 23 other candidates to fill one of the seven positions available on the board.
Jewel has been teaching law-related courses for more than 15 years. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Tennessee, she taught at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School and also served as director of legal skills and professionalism.
The Legal Writing Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving legal communication, building the discipline of legal writing, and improving the status of legal writing faculty across the country.
Board members work closely with the organization’s more than 20 committees and 1,000 members.
