The University of Tennessee College of Law will host the annual Julian Blackshear, Jr. Scholarship Gala early next month.
The featured guest is Shelby County Tennessee Commissioner Van Turner (’02) who was instrumental in the efforts to remove Confederate statues from public parks in Memphis, Tennessee. The event will be held virtually.
The University of Tennessee College of Law looks forward each year to celebrating the diversity of the college by honoring Julian Blackshear, Jr., one of its first African-American graduates. The event offers an opportunity to reflect on the commitment to equality and inclusivity.
While this annual gala is an important celebration of the past, its primary purpose is to support black law students with financial assistance by growing the Julian Blackshear Scholarship Fund.
The event takes place April 8, 2021 beginning with a virtual reception at 5 p.m. and followed by the program at 5:30 p.m. Those who wish to attend must register in advance. If you have additional questions, please contact Ellen Cole at ecole@utk.edu.
