University of Tennessee graduate Andrew Shafer has joined the College of Law as the senior director of advancement.
Shafer holds two degrees from the University of Tennessee, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication and master’s degree in public administration. He has more than 10 years of experience as an advancement and leadership professional.
Shafer is formerly the planned giving manager for the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the chief advancement officer of the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle in New York and the vice president for advancement at Aquinas College in Nashville.
He also worked in alumni and development roles at the University of Tennessee between 2007 and 2012, managing development efforts for the College of Communication and Information.
“When I learned about this position, I saw it as a great opportunity to come back home to Knoxville,” said Shafer, whose wife Jessica Hodge Shafer is a College of Law alumna.
“My wife and I are passionate about UT, are graduates of UT, and I’m excited to be building on all that has been going on for the last 10 to 20 years in the College of Law.”
Shafer will oversee the College of Law Advancement Office staff, lead the college’s fundraising efforts and oversee alumni relations. He officially began in the position on August 1.
