Master of Legal Studies: Criminal Law

The Criminal Law focus provides individuals who work or plan to work in the criminal law field with the knowledge necessary to succeed in the areas of criminal law, procedure, and the criminal justice system. While students have the flexibility to tailor a schedule of courses to their own needs, course possibilities include the following:

  • Structure and Operation of the American Legal System
  • Introduction to Legal Reasoning and Communication
  • Criminal Law
  • Torts
  • Criminal Procedure
  • Legislation and Regulation
  • Advanced Criminal Law*
  • Civil Rights Actions*
  • Poverty, Race, Gender and the Law*
  • Written Project (minimum of 1 credit hour)

All courses listed are offered online in an asynchronous fashion unless indicated otherwise. With some exceptions, students pursuing the MLS or Graduate Certificate are permitted to take JD courses. Check the Graduate Catalog for a list of JD courses.
