Reciprocity Services

A service that is particularly helpful to alumni and students seeking positions outside the Knoxville area is our reciprocity agreement with other law schools’ career services offices. Through UT’s membership in the National Association for Law Placement, we are able to secure services similar to those we provide to UT alumni. Typically restricted to third-year students and graduates, reciprocal services require that we send a letter of request to the selected school(s) and provide them with your mailing address. Services may include one consultation with a counselor, access to office resources, and the chance to subscribe to a job opportunities newsletter or online listing service. To inquire about the availability of reciprocal services at other law schools, e-mail us at lawcareer@utk.edu.

The Career Center’s facilities and resources are also available to students and graduates of other ABA-accredited law schools that will provide reciprocal services to UT Law students and graduates. If the policies of the requesting law school are more restrictive, UT Law reciprocity policies may be adjusted similarly.

Reciprocity Policies

Application procedure. Requests by a career services official should be directed to Kay Brown at lawcareer@utk.edu. Requests are also accepted via fax at 865-974-3068 or by mail at 1505 W. Cumberland Ave., Knoxville, TN 37996.

A copy of the reciprocity services of the requesting school should be included. An e-mail address should be provided for the guest, who is requested to await receipt of our response before contacting the Career Center. Services provided. Guests will receive access to position announcements through Symplicity. Guests are also eligible for one counseling appointment with Career Center staff, either in person or by phone. Participation in on-campus interviews and off-campus job conferences and résumé referrals are not available.

Eligibility and Duration

Reciprocal services are limited to third-year students and graduates and are available for three months from the time that reciprocity is granted.
