The University of Tennessee College of Law is the 11th Best Value in the nation and one of the nation’s best in business law, according to recent rankings by preLaw magazine.
The magazine recently released its Best Value rankings of the top 25 schools in the country based on graduates’ performance on the bar exam, their success finding jobs and other factors related to affordability and value.
The College of Law also is one of only 13 schools to receive an A+ evaluation in the area of business law. Harvard University, the University of Southern California, George Washington University and William & Mary are among the others noted with the distinction.
“We take great pride in the high-quality legal education that our students receive, which equips them with the professional skills and values essential for success in today’s legal market,” College of Law Dean Lonnie T. Brown, Jr. said. “It is even more important and gratifying that we are able to accomplish this in a manner that maximizes the return on their educational investment. This is and will continue to be a priority for the College of Law.”
The magazine’s editors say the Best Value methodology “is designed to recognize schools where graduates have excellent chances of passing the bar and getting a legal job without taking on a ton of debt.”
In determining the Best Value schools, preLaw evaluates bar passage and employment percentages as well as tuition and fees, living expenses, average debt and percentage of students who graduate with debt.
Among the UT College of Law class of 2021 graduates, 88% found full-time, long-term positions that require passing a bar exam or in which a law degree offers an advantage. Overall employment for the 2021 class was 93%.
The College of Law also excelled on the July 2022 Tennessee Bar Exam ranking number one among all Tennessee law schools for the percentage of first-time test takers who passed, with 90.91% of our graduates achieving a passing score.
