Carter S. Moore of Cosby, Tenn. has been appointed Circuit Court Judge for the 4th Judicial District, serving Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson and Sevier counties.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced the appointment on Oct. 30. Moore, 35, obtained his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2008.
Moore has been self-employed as an attorney in Cocke County since 2009, practicing family law, criminal law, probate and estate law, and personal injury law, with an emphasis on family law. He has also served as Cocke County Attorney since 2011, working as general counsel for the various branches of Cocke County government.
“Carter has a strong background in the 4th Judicial District, and his experience fits this vacancy well,” Haslam said. “We are pleased to have him serve in this capacity.”
Moore replaces retiring Judge Ben W. Hooper II.
“I want to thank the governor for this appointment. It seems impossible for anyone to attempt to replace Judge Hooper, but I am excited to give my all to this position,” Moore said. “I look forward to serving the people of the 4th Judicial District.”
Moore has been a member of the Newport Kiwanis Club since 2011 and is currently on its board of directors. He has been a leader of the locally based bluegrass band Mountain Edge since 2002.
Moore and his wife, Renee, have three children, Katey, Janey and Carter.
