Federal Clemency Mini-Clinic sees wins in three major cases

Students of the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Federal Clemency Clinic have secured their first victories. The clinic’s first victory came in early June when client Emlera Quince received a commuted sentence under a under a federal clemency initiative that seeks to reduce the long sentences previously required by mandatory federal drug sentencing laws.

UT Law students, former professor honored for Legal Clinic service

Associate professor emeritus Jerry Black and a number of students were recently recognized for their contributions to the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Legal Clinic during the past academic year. Black, who retired in spring 2014, was the recipient of the Bernstein-Ritchie Award, which recognizes extraordinary service to the Legal Clinic.

UT Law student wins 2016 TBA Hastings Writing Competition

Grant L. Ruhl (’17), a student of the University of Tennessee College of Law, was recently named the winner of the 2016 Jon E. Hastings Memorial Award Writing Competition, sponsored by the Tennessee Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section.

UT Law wins second at national Prince evidence competition

A team of University of Tennessee College of Law students won second place and second-best brief in the national Dean Jerome Prince Memorial Evidence Competition, besting thirty-four other law school teams from throughout the country.
