Scholarship gala honors students, celebrates diversity at College of Law

The College of Law paid tribute to the namesake of the Julian Blackshear, Jr. Gala at the 20th annual scholarship event on Saturday. The event, hosted by the Black Law Student Association, celebrates the College’s commitment to diversity and recognizes pioneers like Blackshear whose experiences influenced positive change.

Legal Clinic to offer assistance to Monroe County residents

The University of Tennessee College of Law Legal Clinic is partnering with the Monroe County legal community to host a Saturday Expungement Community Court on Oct. 30. The event will bring together judges, legal partners, and community volunteers at the First United Church of Christ in Sweetwater, Tennessee from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

College hosts annual Connecting the Threads business transactions conference

The fifth annual “Business Transactions: Connecting the Threads” event will take place at the College of Law on Sept. 24.  This one-day program will be offered virtually via Zoom, and lawyers will hear from business law professors from the Business Law Prof Blog who are currently teaching at various schools across the United States.

Law Library exhibit to highlight history of 19th Amendment

The Joel A. Katz Law Library in the College of Law will host “100 Years After the 19th Amendment: Their Legacy, and Our Future,” a traveling exhibit that honors the women’s suffrage movement. The exhibit is a project of the American Bar Association in conjunction with the Library of Congress.

College hosts Blackshear Scholarship Gala 2021 virtually

The University of Tennessee College of Law will host the annual Julian Blackshear, Jr. Scholarship Gala early next month. The featured guest is Shelby County Tennessee Commissioner Van Turner (’02) who was instrumental in the efforts to remove Confederate statues from public parks in Memphis, Tennessee. The event will be held virtually.
