On September 29, 2023, the College of Law held a Celebration of Generosity reception to honor the alumni and friends who provide major philanthropic support for the College of Law. At this year’s celebration, Dean Lonnie Brown welcomed the honored attendees and thanked them for their support of our students.

SWEL Event Fosters Diversity in the Legal Profession

According to the American Bar Association’s 2022 Profile of the Legal Profession, just 4.5% of lawyers are Black. The Summer Work Experience in Law (SWEL) program aims to significantly raise that percentage.

TN Supreme Court Justice Sharon Lee to address graduates

Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon G. Lee will serve as the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Spring 2023 commencement speaker.  Lee, a 1978 graduate of the College of Law, has spent 45 years as a lawyer and jurist.

Leadership education focus draws praise from Bloomberg Law

The University of Tennessee College of Law’s Institute for Professional Leadership has been recognized for “leading the way in educational innovations.” The Institute for Professional Leadership is one of only eight U.S. law school programs honored by Bloomberg Law’s Law School Innovation Program as a top-scoring innovative legal education program in student development.

Students build advocacy, writing skills through annual Advocates’ Prize competition

Second-year law students Joshua Cook and Emma Savage Fowler have won the University of Tennessee College of Law’s 2022 Advocates’ Prize competition. The annual event, hosted by the College of Law’s Moot Court Board, offers an opportunity for law students to enhance their skills in brief writing and appellate advocacy.
