UT College of Law ranks 14th best value nationally

The University of Tennessee College of Law has been ranked among the best value law schools in the country by preLaw Magazine.

The magazine’s Fall 2020 issue identifies 20 law schools as those offering students the best education for the money and Tennessee ranks 14th on the list.

Writer Mike Stetz says the analysis “shows that many continue to offer affordable, results-driven” educuation “that can pretty much squash the popular argument that it’s a bad bet to become a lawyer.”

Interim Dean Doug Blaze said the College of Law values providing students with the opportunity to make decisions about their futures in the profession without being overwhelmed by how to finance their education.

“We are pleased that we’ve been able to keep tuition affordable for our students,” Blaze said. “We want them to be able to focus on becoming successful lawyers and leaders in their communities.”

In making its determination, the magazine looked at employment, bar passage, tuition, living expenses, average debt of borrowers and the percentage of students who receive loans. Tennessee was ranked particularly high in employment levels with nearly 95% of students finding jobs within 10 months of graduation.

The magazine also ranked the College of Law among the top 13 in the nation for students who want to study business law. To read more about the rankings, click here.
