UT Law alumni recognized as best of the Memphis Bar

Four University of Tennessee College of Law alumni have been recognized by the Memphis Business Journal with “Best of the Bar” awards.

George T. “Buck” Lewis (‘80), Bruce A. McMullen (‘96), Gadson “Will” Perry (‘11), and David A. Thornton (‘84) were honored in March by the organization.

Lewis, a shareholder at Baker Donelson, received the honor for private firm (extra large) after being praised as incredibly engaged and an aggressive litigator. McMullen, also of Baker Donelson and the chief legal officer for the City of Memphis, received the honor for public service.

Thornton, attorney at Bass, Berry and Sims PLLC, won the honor for private firm (large) while Perry, a senior associate with Butler Snow, won the Ace Associate category.

In his nomination for the award, Perry said he doesn’t shy away from hard work.

“If I’ve managed to stand out in any way, it’s [because] I listen more than I talk,” he said.
