UT Legal Clinic Honored for Extraordinary Community Service

This fall, the Legal Clinic at the University of Tennessee College of Law was recognized by both the Knoxville Branch of the NAACP and Legal Aid of East Tennessee for its extraordinary community service and legal representation of clients who cannot afford an attorney.

Recent graduate selected to head pro bono efforts

Lauren Baxter has been selected to serve as the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Access to Justice and Pro Bono Program Fellow.  In her role, Baxter will provide guidance for the College of Law’s student pro bono program, recruiting student volunteers and attorneys to offer pro bono services.

Throughout the month of April, the University of Tennessee College of Law is celebrating the 25th anniversary of student pro bono service. Students are at the heart of UT Pro Bono, sharing the responsibility of organizing a majority of the volunteer events throughout the year for their classmates.

College of Law offers assistance with income tax filing

The College of Law Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to those with an income of $55,000 or less, those with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

UT Law community raises $82,413 in one day

The College of Law nearly doubled it’s one-day fundraising goal on Nov. 8 as the law community came together to contribute $82,413 to the college. The fundraising event was part of the campus-wide Big Orange Give campaign.

College of Law celebrates Big Orange Give

The College of Law is working to raise $41,321 today in conjunction with the University’s Big Orange Give campaign. The dollar amount coincides with the number of pro-bono service hours students have completed on behalf of the College of Law throughout the last five years.
