College of Law offers assistance with income tax filing

The College of Law Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to those with an income of $55,000 or less, those with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

UT Law Professor Eric Amarante is sourced in with this Business Insider story: “People who donate to white supremacist groups can get a tax break because the IRS considers many of them ‘educational.'” Amarante suggests the problem lies in an “unnecessarily broad definition of ‘educational.
