Rachel Wedding McClelland joined UT Law as the Director of Communications in Spring 2017. In this role, Rachel is responsible for all day-to-day and long range communications needs for the college and supports its departments, research centers and programs by providing professional, effective and high quality communications products and services.
Before joining UT Law, she served as the Director of Student Media both at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and at Indiana State University. She currently teaches courses in UT’s College of Communication. Prior to her career in higher education, Rachel worked as a print news reporter for a variety of publications covering social issues, crime, city and county government and the arts. She covered state election news as a stringer for the Associated Press.
Rachel serves on the national boards of College Media Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. Locally, she serves on the boards of the Front Page Foundation, an organization that supports journalism education, and the Clarence Brown Theatre. Aside from her media work, Rachel is a playwright whose award-winning play “Man to Man” was performed at Chicago’s famed Second City.
She lives in West Knoxville with her husband and three teenage sons.
