Smokey has to be the happiest mascot in the country because Knoxville is one of the nation’s most pet friendly communities. In 2011, Knoxville was named the most dog friendly city in the Southeast by Dog Fancy Magazine, the world’s most widely read dog magazine.
It’s a well-earned title too; throughout the past few years UT has collaborated with the City of Knoxville, Knox County, Young Williams Animal Shelter, the Knoxville News Sentinel, and PetSafe to create the nation’s “Most Pet Friendly” community right here in the Scruffy City. Additionally, UT’s College of Veterinary Medicine is a leader in animal health research and practice and takes referrals for pets in need of medical attention.
Knoxville is home to several different dog parks located in the city and throughout the surrounding area. These include:
- Concord Dog Park
- Dogwood Park at Victor Ashe Park
- PetSafe Charter Doyle Dog Park
- PetSafe Dog Park at Tommy Schumpert Park
- PetSafe Downtown Dog Park
- PetSafe Holston River Dog Park
- PetSafe Village Dog Park
Several pet clinics and hospitals are also located in the area including:
