Job Postings for Students and Alumni
Job Postings are available to employers looking to connect with students or experienced graduates for either short-term or long-term hiring. This service is offered free of charge on a year-round basis. You may either create your listing in Symplicity or complete our Position Listing Form.
Off-campus job fairs
Employers may also meet our students and recent graduates at several off-campus recruiting events in Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, and Washington, DC. Please contact Career Services if your organization would like more information about any of these events. Contact our staff for more information.
Employer Resources
In addition to connecting you with ideal candidates, we are prepared to help your organization by providing information and materials regarding evolving legal market trends, salary information, lawyer competency mapping, screening and interview topics, and best practices for legal recruiting and retention. Contact our staff for more information.
Field Placements
Field placements involve supervised legal work by a law student in a professional placement, as approved by the employer. Students receive academic credit for this work at a rate of 50 hours of work (per term) = 1 credit hour. Students work with a faculty supervisor and an employer supervisor to maximize the experiential learning of the participating student. Field placements occurring during the Fall and Spring semesters are covered in the regular tuition paid by the student. Summer field placements require addition tuition per academic hour sought.
The Career Center is happy to help facilitate the hiring process for field placements. To learn more about potentially hiring a student for a field placement, please contact us at lawcareer@utk.edu or 865-974-4349.
Nashville Semester in Residence Program
The Semester in Residence offers UT Law students the opportunity to spend the spring semester gaining valuable experience related to their career interests in Nashville. This opportunity provides the experience of hands-on legal work that aligns with student interests in working with either a government entity or a non-profit organization.
Policies
The University of Tennessee College of Law has adopted standards to promote fair and ethical practices among students and employers for the interviewing and decision-making process, in the form of these guidelines for the timing of employment offers and decisions.
NALP’s recruitment principles are guidelines that offer an ethical framework for all participants in law student recruiting. They guide the timing of responses to offers and set forth the obligations of all participants in the recruiting process.
UT Law is a member of the Association of American Law Schools and subscribes to its policy of providing students and graduates with equal opportunity to obtain employment without discrimination or segregation on the grounds of race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability or military status.
Career Center assistance and facilities are open only to those employers whose practices are in agreement with this policy. By using our assistance and/or facilities, your organization acknowledges that you observe the principles of equal opportunity contained in the College of Law’s non-discrimination statement. If your organization cannot provide an affirmative indication of compliance, please tell us why or submit your organization’s non-discrimination policy.
Students and private-sector employers should be aware of federal regulations that apply federal wage and hour laws to internships. View the United States Department of Labor fact sheet on volunteer internships.
