About ILSA

The International Law Society at the University of Tennessee College of Law is a member chapter of the International Law Students Association (ILSA). For more information, visit the ILSA website.

ILSA organizes student conferences, a publication, and the annual Jessup International Moot Court Competition.

Purpose

The International Law Society at the University of Tennessee College of Law is organized to promote awareness of issues which affect the international law profession, and to promote and foster awareness of international affairs generally, throughout the Law School and wider UT community. The organization will serve as an informational resource for persons who are interested in careers in both public and private international law, and those who want to study or work abroad. You may also view our constitution (pdf) for more information.

Activities

The ILS at Tennessee promotes study and work abroad opportunities for law students, the Jessup Moot Competition, and awareness and debate of international affairs within the law school and the wider community. The Society also administers two pro bono projects: International Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) in the spring, and the Immigration Assistance Project in the fall.

The mission of the ILS is to be the main source for ALL things international in the Law School.  This means promoting the following:

  • study abroad and work abroad opportunities
  • upper level classes in international law offered at the law school
  • debate and scholarship on international issues
  • general interest in international affairs
  • the Phillip C. Jessup international Law Moot Court competition
  • pro bono opportunities in international law in the community.

We will promote all of these things through hosting speakers and events, bringing access to documentaries and workshops, and also social events to all get to know each other a little better and network.
