Alan Jackson

Name: Alan Jackson

Employment: Clerk for Federal Magistrate Judge Walter E. Johnson

Back to the Classroom: As a seventh-generation East Tennessean, UT was a natural choice for Athens, Tenn., native Alan Jackson. After receiving a degree in philosophy from the University of the South in 2006 he served for two years as a high school English teacher. However, Jackson decided he wasn’t done learning, so he enrolled in law school in August 2008.

Preparing for Law: Alan Jackson is quick to credit the UT College of Law for soundly preparing him for a legal career.

“It is simply a great package,” says Jackson, who graduated in May 2011 and headed to Rome, Ga., for a two-year clerkship with Federal Magistrate Judge Walter E. Johnson.

“First, UT offers a sound legal education under engaging, respected professors. Second, students who participate in one of the many clinical programs offered here can graduate confident that they can begin their careers familiar with actual practice. And third, UT law students will befriend other aspiring lawyers who share the same passion and intelligence for the law.”

Outside the Classroom: Jackson also supplemented his classroom work by serving as editor-in-chief of the Tennessee Law Review during his final year. He also participated with Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Knoxville and Meals on Wheels.

“UT law school was a great experience,” Jackson says. “And it all came at a very reasonable price. I have no regrets about choosing UT.”
