Open Position: Director of Development

Description

The Director of Development for the College of Law works with the Senior Director of Development and with the Dean of the College, associate deans, faculty, and other staff and external constituencies to further the College’s fundraising efforts. The Director implements the strategic direction set forth for the College – which includes, but is not limited to, identifying, cultivating, strategizing, soliciting, negotiating, and stewarding donor prospects for both private and corporate gifts/grants/pledges, managing scholarships and fellowships specific to the development office, and the annual giving campaign. Campaign initiatives are a priority as well.

Qualifications

The Director of Development for the College of Law should have a bachelor’s degree and proven success in professional or higher education fundraising, sales and marketing, or a related field. Some management experience with 4 plus years of development, sales, or related experience is necessary. Experience with capital campaigns, annual giving, and planned giving are preferred. A master’s degree or JD is preferred.

Job skills required are excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong presentation skills, self-confidence and motivation, attentiveness to detail, and sensitivity to the needs of diverse constituencies and a strong, goal-oriented work ethic. A proven ability to prioritize and manage complex projects and to work in a fast-paced team environment and the ability and willingness to travel extensively are necessary. An aggressive sales mentality with the ability to provide strategic leadership is required. This position will maintain a significant prospect portfolio working with some of the university’s most generous alumni and friends. It is anticipated that this position will make 180+ visits, drive 30+ major gift proposals with over half at six figures or more, and close gifts exceeding $1.5 million annually.
